Title: Devil's Tower 5" x 7"
Size: 5"x7" framed
Edition Size: Open Edition
Devil's Tower is based four wooden statues, carved in wood, that reside underneath the North, South, West, and East corners of the pagoda. Buddhist tradition has it that they are not good enough to reach the highest ascension (they're devils after all); so in order to redeem themselves they hold up the tower.
In this case I've taken the devil's out for an evening of drink and fun (they're devils after all). The sake they're drinking is from the local sake brewery where the pagoda resides, and is named "ichi no ide".
The title in Japanese is "oni no tou", but in English I chose the direct translation which is a play on words of "Devil's Tower" which is South Dakota.
