One of the challenges of photographing small sculptures like figurines is getting all of the details and focusing on something so small, while still getting the depth of field necessary.
For very small works I will typically set the F stop to a very high number, like F22, and focus on the foremost part of the sculpture. I do this in the same way you would do landscape photography with extreme depth of field. You use a high F stop and focus on the foreground, ignoring the blur in the background that you see in the viewfinder.
This of course means that you’ll need a very long shutter speed, even under very good lighting conditions, so care needs to be taken not to get overly long exposures that introduce grain. But the good news is that your subject is standing still, as it’s a figurine, or sculpture, or perhaps a product shot. So the subject will sit still for you.
